Our new D'Amour Day Dresses: Their Vintage Inspirations and A Size Guide

Turn up the sunshine and give your wardrobe a little wiggle and swish, Kitten!

Oh, the 1950s would be so proud of us. Summer has arrived - warm, golden, and humming with promise - and there is simply no better way to enjoy it than in a beautiful, full-skirted dress with a hint of old-fashioned glamour.

This season, three day dresses step into the spotlight: the Provence Belted Dress, the Ditsy Dress, and the Serenity Floral Dress.

Each charming, each summery, each inspired by the romance of vintage fashion history - from 18th-century French textiles to the playful florals of the 60s, to the feminine war-era silhouettes of the 40s.

Let’s take a stroll through their stories…

The Provence Belted Dress - History Never Looked So Pretty!

The Provence Belted Dress is not just a pretty print - she’s a bona fide time traveller.

Her exquisite pattern is a genuine reproduction of an 18th-century Toile de Jouy artwork, the kind once found on the grand walls of French manor houses. Yes, wallpaper - but the kind Marie Antoinette herself would have fluttered her lashes at. Dreamy pastoral scenes, delicate hot air balloons, and that unmistakable French romance… all created centuries before swing dancing or soda fountains ever existed.

But here’s where it gets delicious: We’ve whisked this elegant 1700s artwork straight into the golden age of mid-century fashion. With her nipped waist, graceful skirt, and perfectly poised silhouette, Provence feels like Grace Kelly on a summer holiday, or Audrey Hepburn stepping out for a Riviera luncheon — the kind of dress that makes you think in soft piano music and sunbeams. She’s French history meets 1950s glamour… and somehow even sweeter than both.

A dress made for sunshine… and quite possibly a croissant.

The Ditsy Dress - A Flirtation with the Early 1960s

The 'Ditsy' Dress is a little ray of sunshine - playful, colourful, and full of personality. While still rooted in 1950s structure (the fitted bodice + flared skirt we all adore), her print and details give her a distinctly early 1960s freshness.

Floral prints like this bloomed (quite literally!) in the late 50s and early 60s as fashion shifted toward youthful optimism. Sandra Dee, Annette Funicello, and even a young Brigitte Bardot wore fun, bright florals in their off-screen wardrobes. This era embraced lighter patterns, cheerful colours, and silhouettes that felt lively and approachable.

The Ditsy Dress captures that spirit perfectly - she’s the girl-next-door sweetheart with a vintage twist.
Fun, flirty, and ready for summer adventures, from morning school runs to impromptu bakery stops.

She’s nostalgia bottled into a dress - and goodness, does she wear it well.

The Serenity Floral Dress - Feminine Grace with a 1940s Whisper

The Serenity Floral Dress is summer romance stitched into fabric - soft, flowing, and quietly breathtaking. While she feels light and fresh for warm days, her bones are pure 1940s femininity.

Her silhouette - the gently shaped bodice, the flattering sweep of the skirt, the softened neckline - echoes the elegance of screen legends like Gene Tierney, Vivien Leigh, and Lauren Bacall in their more romantic roles. In the 1940s, dresses celebrated curve without constraint, favouring movement, drape, and gentle structure over the crisp lines that would arrive in the 1950s.

Serenity’s aqua-blue base and scattered purple florals make her look like a summer garden brought to life. She’s flirty without being loud, feminine without being fussy - the perfect dress for warm afternoons, garden parties, lazy beachside strolls, or those “I just want to feel pretty today” moments.

She is graceful, timeless, and irresistibly wearable… the kind of dress that seems to float when you walk.

SHOP THE SUMMER LOOK - THE 1950s WAY

Now that we’ve met our beautiful summer dresses, it’s time to complete the story with those perfectly vintage finishing touches. For the Provence Belted Dress, nothing creates that lavish 1950s silhouette quite like a tea-length petticoat, paired with the elegant Harlow Shoe in Pearl, topped with a Riviera Straw Hat, or a soft scarf tied sweetly. Add a pretty hair flower and you’re ready for any sunlit adventure.

The Ditsy Dress comes to life with a soft, but voluminous petticoat and white D’Amour Sneakers for a playful pop of contrast. A velvet bow or bright floral hair piece brings out her girl-next-door charm, while the Madeline Handbag in Navy and a light summer scarf complete that wholesome early-60s sweetness.

For the Serenity Floral Dress, think gentle romance - a cloud-soft petticoat to give the skirt just the right amount of lift, 'Harlow' Shoes in Pearl for chic comfort, and our Folklore Straw Hat adorned with a scarf for that dreamy elegance. A necklace like the Carmen Pearl Necklace finishes the look with effortless grace.

Each accessory is a little piece of vintage magic, ready to help you step into your own sunshine-soaked moment.

STEP INTO YOUR OWN SUMMER STORY

In every decade, summer has always belonged to the woman who steps outside wearing something that makes her feel marvellous - in the 40s she drifted through the sunshine in flowing silhouettes, in the 50s she twirled in nipped waists and generous skirts, and in the 60s she laughed her way through warm days in playful florals and bright colours.

And today… she wears Kitten D’Amour. Slip into a dress that makes the sunshine feel sweeter; let your skirt swish, let your shoulders relax, and let your inner vintage heroine come out to play.

Summer is waiting, Kitten - go make it beautiful!

Even the prettiest summer dress must feel as lovely as it looks, and that’s where our wonderful Kittens come in. With their different shapes and heights, they’ve tried on each design to share how it fits, feels, and flatters - real women in real dresses, just as vintage fashion was meant to be enjoyed. Your perfect size is just a swish away.

Serenity Floral Dress - Size 10
“I also took a size 10 in Serenity. The silhouette is simply lovely, and those ruffled shoulders give such a flattering taper through the waist - it feels feminine and just a little bit flirty. I tried it both with and without a purple belt and loved it both ways. The cotton–silk fabric is beautiful here too, light and breezy and absolutely ready for summer.”

Ditsy Dress - Size 10 (but chose a 12)
“This one stole my heart - my favourite of the whole collection! It’s incredibly wearable, with that fun nod to early 60s styling. While I could fit the size 10, I ultimately chose the 12 because it created such a smooth, lovely silhouette with a petticoat and gave me a little extra wiggle room. It still looked beautifully fitted and felt so comfortable.”

Provence Belted Dress - Size 10
“I wore the smaller of my two usual sizes, and the size 10 nipped in perfectly at the waist. The cotton–silk blend is so soft and lightweight - absolutely dreamy for warm days. I adore that this dress comes with its own belt, and with a tea-length petticoat underneath it becomes pure 1950s magic. The little shoulder ties add just the right touch of flair to a truly classic silhouette.”

Provence Belted Dress — Size 6
“This dress is incredibly light and flowy - such a dream for summer, and lined so it’s never see-through. I’d wear my Provence Belted Dress on a romantic little summer rendezvous; it feels so pretty and elevated. It’s the longer tea-length style out of the collection, which gives it a sweet, modest charm. The belt is wonderful for cinching in the waist to create that perfect vintage shape. I felt so graceful in this one!”

Ditsy Dress — Size 6
“Oh my goodness, I love this fabric - it’s so cute and unlike anything we’ve ever done before.. except perhaps 'Que Sera Sera'! The Ditsy Dress is wonderfully versatile… honestly, I’d wear mine anywhere, from feeding my ducks to doing whatever the day throws at me. And the pockets - they are VERY deep, which is always a win. The white contrast lining makes all the details pop beautifully, and the fit is absolutely true to size. The straps are perfect for summer, giving great arm movement and keeping me cool. The fabric holds its shape so well — thick and high quality, but still breezy enough for warm days. I felt adorable in this one.”

Provence Belted Dress - Size 10:
“I love the tea length of this one; it feels so graceful and elegant, and the size 10 fit like an absolute dream. The added belt is wonderful for cinching in the waist, giving that beautiful 1950s silhouette. Light, breezy, and truly lovely to wear.”

Ditsy Dress - Size 10:
“The size 10 was a perfect fit - I absolutely adore the sweet vintage housewife vibe of this dress. The print is so charming, and those pockets are such a delight. I felt cute as a button the moment I slipped it on!”

Serenity Floral Dress - Size 10:
“This dress quickly became my favourite of the release. The flutter sleeve is so flattering, and the print is beautifully feminine. The size 10 was true to size and felt incredibly pretty on. And truly - the fabrics in this collection are amazing!”

Kerryn Kitten

Measurements:  BUST 93CM, WAIST 70CM, HIP 104CM, HEIGHT 169CM

Provence Belted Dress - Size 8:
“This dress is so wonderfully romantic and feminine, especially for anyone who loves that longer tea length. I wore the size 8, which was true to size, and paired it with the tea-length petticoat - there’s so much glorious skirt to swish about in! I adore the pop of blue from the belt; it cinches the waist beautifully. The cotton–silk blend has no stretch, so if you usually rely on a little give in the bodice, you may wish to consider sizing up. And truly… this would be perfection with a big sunhat and a wicker basket filled with cheeses. (I firmly believe all wicker baskets should contain the makings of a cheese platter.)”

Ditsy Dress - Size 8:
“Oh my stars, this dress! I felt like Gidget herself. It’s cute as a button and such a joyful little 60s moment. There’s no stretch in this one either, so if you’re between sizes, I’d recommend going up. I love the white trim, the big pockets, and those adorable white buttons. And let me tell you -it looked so sweet with the D’Amour Sneakers!”

D’Amour Sneakers - Size 9:
“I’m usually an 8.5, but the 9 was perfect. The elastic on each side of the heel made the half-size difference completely comfortable. I love the ribbon laces - they’re feminine and fun, and they look gorgeous with pretty dresses. You could absolutely wear a cute pair of socks with them, which I’d happily do when not wearing pantyhose.”

Serenity Floral Dress - Size 8:
“I did not expect to love this dress as much as I did… it’s one of those magical pieces you slip into and suddenly - bam - prepare to knock your own socks off! The colour is gorgeous, and I couldn’t resist adding my ‘Le Jardin’ Flower Crown from a couple of years ago… it’s the perfect match. The size 8 was absolutely true to size, and I felt so pretty in it.”

Adrienne Kitten

Measurements:  BUST 108CM, WAIST 88CM, HIP 118CM, HEIGHT 169CM

Provence Belted Dress - Size 12:
“The Provence Belted Dress is certainly my favourite of the three! The size 12 was beautifully true to size, and the silhouette is just so elegant. I adore the tea length — it makes me think of tea and scones… maybe even a mimosa if the afternoon is right! It felt wonderfully feminine and so easy to wear.”

Ditsy Dress - Size 12:
“The Ditsy Dress is as cute as a button! The size 12 fit nicely, though I did find it a little snug under the arms, so I might size up for comfort — but I do love the waist shape in the 12, so it’s a bit of a balancing act. The A-line skirt is adorable, and the pockets are such a treat. The pattern is just delightful!”

Serenity Floral Dress - Size 12:
“The Serenity Dress is simply delightful - perfect for a picnic or a date night. The size 12 was true to size and very comfortable. The ruffles are beautiful without being too large, and they catch the breeze in the prettiest way. I styled mine with a pop of colour in my hair to bring out the blue in my eyes. It felt wonderfully romantic.”
